I really love the idea but I would love to see a version with some gradients and shininess

too small font chosen, it's almost unreadable

look very awesome, but start menu is too small, only shortcuts. Very very hard to press run or control panel.

for run and search I use the shortcuts:
windows key + r and +f
you can also make a shortcut to the control panel...
C:\WINDOWS\system32\control.exe
and the control panel extensions are in the system 32 folder (*.cpl) like network connections, C:\WINDOWS\system32\ncpa.cpl etc... so you can create your own control panel folder for the start menu easily...

make a new folder on the desktop and then open system32 folder (in detail view to see the filetypes and arrange icons by type) select all (ctrl-a) the control panel extensions (.cpl files) right click and create shortcut which will create shortcuts, and then drag them all to the desktop folder and then put that folder into the startmenu folder ( C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu)
